Environmental Scoping Document: Government Response Maintains Project Momentum

Infinity Lithium Corporation Limited (‘Infinity’, or ‘the Company’), through wholly owned subsidiary Extremadura New Energies, is pleased to announce the Regional Government of Extremadura’s General Directorate for Sustainability has reinforced the advancement of the San José Lithium Project (‘San José’, or ‘the Project’) permitting process through the finalisation of the Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Document (‘EIA Scoping Document’, or ‘Initial Document’). The delivery of the EIA Scoping Document follows the recent granting of the Exploration Permit Extremadura S.E. (‘PESE’) (see ASX Announcement 29 March 2023).

HIGHLIGHTS

  • Infinity receives government response to Environmental Impact Assessment (‘EIA’) Scoping Document.
  • The response streamlines the process for completion and lodgement of the mining license application and environmental impact assessment submission.
  • EIA Scoping Document establishes the preliminary conditions for San José to be compatible with environmental and urbanistic license requirements.
  • The EIA Scoping Document has resulted from the collaborative process with regional and local government and other interested parties to the Project.
  • Key findings will be included in the mining license and environmental authorisation submission.
  • The finalisation of the EIA Scoping Document follows the recent granting of Exploration Permit Extremadura S.E and reinforces the Company’s administrative process and permitting strategy.
  • Permitting milestones reinforce government and stakeholder commitment to the Project.
The report received from the Regional Government Administration establishes the preliminary conditions for San José to be compatible with environmental and urbanistic license requirements through the recommendations for inclusion in the submission of the Company’s mining license and environmental authorisation submissions.

Furthermore, the technical document clarifies the conditions to be met for the preferred location of the lithium chemical conversion plant and portal for mineral resource exploitation. The collaborative process assesses all options for the final location of the lithium chemical conversion plant and reinforce the conditions to locate the plant in the proximity of the location previous referred to as “Option A” (refer to Figure 1).

The Company will continue to now advance the mining licence and environmental assessment submissions through the Exploitation Concession Application (‘ECA’). Infinity has already commenced works to incorporate the requirements from the EIA Scoping Document into the final Project concession application facilitated through the collaborative process with regional and local government authorities.

Ramón Jiménez, CEO of Extremadura New Energies commented"The collaboration with regional and local authorities following the submission of the Environmental Impact Assessment Scoping Document last year has provided invaluable information and criteria to advance to the formal project submission. This follows from the granting of the key Exploration Permit which provides the administrative platform, with existing granted permits, a process that is clear and transparent for all interested parties for the project. San José is critically important for the locality of Cáceres and region of Extremadura and it is essential that we incorporate all environmental and social license requirements to continue to harness the support of the community.”

Extremadura New Energies values the response of the Regional Government Administration to the EIA Scoping Document which has served as a collaborative initiation document to progress the Project in advance of the final mining licence and environmental assessment submission. The technicians of the Directorate General for Sustainability have compiled the comments and recommendations of other administrations and interested parties that were consulted as part of the process in addition to the Administration’s findings in the EIA Scoping Document.

The finalisation of the EIA Scoping Document reinforces the administrative process and permitting strategy designed by Extremadura New Energies, which continues to progress on schedule.
